Jewelry Care Guide

Your Opulenzza piece is made to last a lifetime. With proper care, its beauty and value will endure for generations.

1. Know Your Gold

Opulenzza pieces are crafted in 10K, 14K, and 18K gold. Knowing the differences will help you care for each piece properly.

  • 10K Gold · 41.7% pureMost durable, ideal for everyday wear.
  • 14K Gold · 58.3% pureBest balance of durability and richness.
  • 18K Gold · 75.0% pureHigher purity, richer color, handle with care.

2. Daily Care

Do

  • Put it on after applying perfume, lotion, and hairspray.
  • Wipe it with a soft cloth after wearing.
  • Store each piece separately to avoid scratches.

Avoid

  • Wearing it in pools, hot tubs, or the ocean: chlorine and salt damage gold. Remove it before swimming or bathing.
  • Applying lotions, perfumes, or sprays while wearing your jewelry.
  • Wearing it during exercise or intense physical activity.
  • Using harsh chemicals or ultrasonic cleaners without professional guidance.

3. How to Clean Your Jewelry

Step-by-step home cleaning:

  • Mix a few drops of mild soap in warm (not hot) water.
  • Soak the piece for 15–20 minutes.
  • Gently scrub with a very soft toothbrush, especially inside the links.
  • Rinse well under warm running water.
  • Dry with a soft cloth and let it dry completely before storing.
  • For diamond pieces: use a soft brush around the setting to remove dirt without loosening the stone. Avoid steam cleaners unless done by a professional.

4. Care by Chain Type

Each chain has unique characteristics that require specific attention.

Cuban

The interlocked links collect dirt where they cross: brush gently, reaching between each joint. Store flat or hanging, never folded sharply.

Figaro

Clean carefully around the pattern transitions (the small links and the elongated one), where dirt accumulates most. The long link catches easily: avoid pulling.

Rope

The twist traps oils and dirt: brush more frequently. Don't twist it against its natural torsion and avoid contact with fabrics that snag the strands.

Monaco

The textured-finish links trap dirt along the edges: brush with care. Polish with a jewelry cloth to maintain the contrast between finishes.

Puff Mariner

Oval links with a transverse bar, puffed (hollow construction): never squeeze or bend it, they dent easily. The center bar collects dirt at the joints: brush gently. Clean only with a soft cloth and store padded, without stacking.

Curb Link

Lay it flat when cleaning to reach between the links. Its flat surface scratches easily: always store it separately from other pieces.

Paper Clip

Its elongated, thin links deform easily: avoid pulling and don't bend it sharply. Gently clean the joints between links, where dirt accumulates. Store flat or hanging to avoid tangles and deformation.

5. Hollow Jewelry Care

Hollow pieces (chains, bracelets, earrings, pendants) are lightweight and elegant, but require extra care due to their delicate construction.

  • Never squeeze, bend, or crush hollow pieces: thin walls dent permanently.
  • Avoid pulling hollow chains: links can collapse under tension.
  • Don't use ultrasonic cleaners: vibration can crack hollow joints.
  • Clean gently with a soft cloth only; avoid prolonged soaking.
  • For hollow earrings: remove them before sleeping to avoid bending posts or hoops.
  • For hollow pendants: handle the bail (top loop) with care — it's the most vulnerable point.
  • Store flat and padded; never stack hollow pieces on top of each other.
  • If a dent occurs, don't try to reshape it at home: visit a professional jeweler.

6. Diamond Jewelry Care

  • Diamonds attract grease: clean them more often than plain gold pieces.
  • Inspect prongs and settings every 6 months for loosening.
  • Avoid impacts: diamonds can chip if struck at the right angle.
  • Never use bleach or abrasive cleaners near diamond settings.
  • For professional deep cleaning, visit us in store every 12 months.

7. Storage

  • Store each piece in a soft pouch or separate compartment.
  • Keep gold away from direct sunlight and extreme heat.
  • Use anti-tarnish strips in your jewelry box to protect the finish.
  • Hang necklaces and chains vertically to avoid kinks and tangles.
  • Keep away from moisture: a silica gel packet in the box helps.

8. About the Magnet Test

  • 10K, 14K, and 18K gold is not magnetic by itself. In a hollow piece, a microscopic metal particle from the manufacturing or finishing process — for example from the tumbler — can get trapped inside, and that particle may react to a magnet.
  • A localized reaction to a magnet alone does not determine a jewel's authenticity or karat. If in doubt, visit us for professional verification.

9. Professional Service

We recommend a professional inspection every 12 months.

  • Professional polishing restores the original mirror shine.
  • Re-tipping prongs for diamonds prevents stone loss.
  • Rhodium plating for white gold maintains its bright whiteness.
  • Re-soldering weak or damaged links or clasps.
